Hi! We are Brenden & Jared Sullivan, twin sophomores who attend Sauk Prairie High School in Wisconsin.
So, why are we posting this? Our school district, like so many other districts, has had to make drastic budget cuts this year. Our music department, in order to save our Elementary and Middle School programs and teachers, decided to keep the music teachers and cut the High School and Middle School musical productions. We believe that having music opportunities in schools is essential. Research shows that young people who are involved with music tend to get better grades and develop strong connections between their right and left brain, making them better learners.
We applaud the music department for keeping music in the schools.
But, we are upset that our school doesn't have the funding to produce the yearly musical. Our High School musicals usually draw over 1000 people. These musicals are eagerly awaited each year. They are impressive. A few of the musicals they have put on include Pirates of Penzance, Joeseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Guys and Dolls and The Mikado.
If you support having music in schools, and you know the many benefits for young people being involved in music (and for the community that is entertained), please help us raise the money we need to continue to produce our musicals. The students involved make life long friends, learn life long skills of music as well as teamwork and cooperation. These are valuable skills which, in the long run, benefit our whole society.
We need $13,000 to put on both the Middle School and High School musicals.
We will attempt to raise the money we need in two Acts (or stages). In the First Act, we hope to raise $2000 in 60 days.
In the Second Act, we will try to raise more money based on the success of our first effort. We will also continue with our regular fundraising activities such as selling Music Association Discount Cards, working at the University of Wisconsin concession stands, selling candles and more.
Put a song in your heart and a generous donation in our fund. Please help make the schools once again alive with the sound of music. We will sing your praises!!
